Author Interview: Nicole Orr

Good morning/afternoon/evening to you all. Today we are going to meet a lovely person in my life, Nicole Orr. This woman is not only a writer, but a force to be reckoned with. Let's jump on in and get to know her a little better. Hey Nicole, what do you write? A while back, I got my feet wet in the publishing world by having more than 18 nonfiction children’s books released through the Purple Toad Publishing House, but alas, the topics, length, pictures and deadlines were all chosen for me. I’ve been a writer for several online blogs too, including pop culture and travel blogs. My true passion, however, is fiction. One of my favorite quotes of all time is Victor Hugo’s, “A writer is a world trapped inside a person.” I’ve been writing stories since I was in my early teens, but it really took off when I discovered the worldwide writing event National Novel Writing Month where you write a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November. While I have participated in that 18 times, I ...

Review: The Billionaire’s Shrubbery

FIVE STARS! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I loved following Will and Virginia’s journey. I really disliked Will at the beginning and was so happy to be there for his journey into a man I’d love to love. Thank you Virginia for being someone I wish I could be so I could live vicariously through you. Well thought out characters, wonderful plot and a scene that had me crying (I’m over-sensitive I think). Ms. Bloom, you are my hero for providing me with a book that with characters I love, a plot I adore, and a premise I wasn’t expecting to love.  I’ve received this book in exchange for an honest review. Opinions are my own because that’s what I do. I hope everyone who reads this book loves it as much as I did.

Author Interview: Tamra B. Orr

Hey, everybody... today we have with us the wonderful and lovely Tamra B. Orr. We’re going to roast her, toast her... I mean interview her.  What is the first book that made you cry? I think it was called Escape to Warsaw. I read it when I was in elementary school and it was my first introduction to war and what happened. I read it over and over and cried every single time.  What made you read it over and over? It was such a foreign way of thinking to me–why hate a person just because of where they lived or what they did/did not believe? I was trying to absorb the concepts, I think.  Does writing energize or exhaust you?  Both. Since writing is my profession, I have due dates, difficult editors, and unreasonable demands that can exhaust me. However, when I am writing and it is all coming together (or I am writing letters!) it energizes me.  (For those of you who aren’t in the know, Tamra is a pen pal too! And a damn good one if I do say so!) What is your writing...

Why Do We Write - Guest Blog Post

Why do we write? _______________________________ Or: what do you get when you cross a sociopath and a cockroach?      Some people say that writers write for immortality, so that some part of them can be left behind when they are gone, so that they will never be forgotten. However, that cannot be entirely true for all writers, or else why would Franz Kafka have asked his friend in his will to burn what would become his two most popular novels, The Trial and The Castle , after himself burning nearly all of his own writing during his lifetime? Others say that we write to change the world, to communicate our ideas to one another, and thereby, hopefully, leave them changed. Indeed, none will deny the effect that written works have had on the course of human history. Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Cervantes, Dante, Dumas, the great religious texts, and countless other written works have shaped the world we live in and our perception of it in a very real, completely ...

Writing About Writing - Guest Blog Post

“I’d like to write about writing,” I wrote in the email. As soon as I sent it, I half winced to myself and sucked in a quick breath. Is this a thing? Will readers and writers alike be interested in my inner monologue as I sort through the writing challenges? Do you want to know the self-doubt that reflects off the sunny window onto my blank screen? Well, here goes!  Writing about writing is beyond difficult. There’s a fine line between metacognitive thinking and a stream of consciousness, and I fear the latter. I picture the words as they tumble out of my brain and bounce onto the paper, not really sticking to anything, but merely lying on the surface, waiting to sink in. What if they don’t sink in? I imagine the letters joining together and scattering off the page when I’m not looking, acutely aware that they may never make any profound impact. Or will they? The words ebb and flow, and so I keep trying. Is writing just blissful ignorance? If so, may I never stop.  We’ve all b...

Author Interview: Tamara Monteau

Today I thought I’d share with you, dear readers, an interview with one of my dearest friends and author Tamara Monteau. Tamara and I met when we both had books under the now defunct Secret Cravings Publishing umbrella. We became fast friends and have remained such for many years. I felt that it was selfish to hoard her all to myself so, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, Tamara take it away.  Tamara : Thanks so much for the invite, Tami! I’m always happy to talk about my favorite vampires. I have a few questions for you that I think my readers wouldn’t love answers to, so here we go: Tell me a little bit about Haven’s Realm. Where did you get the idea for this wonderful world? Tamara : It was something that evolved as my stories grew. I began with an obscure–at the time–vampire clan led by a Council and living in a place I called Haven. The culture didn’t completely evolve until I wrote the fifth book in the series, and it was my husband’s suggestion to incorporate the sev...
